Today, the problem of hybrid wars is one of the most topical for NATO and other organizations protecting Europe from external threat. In fact, the entire Europe, from Finland to Portugal, is gearing up for reflecting external threat, particularly from Russia that for the past few years has mastered a set of techniques on the alienation of territories of other countries under the guise of the self-determination of nations.

In most cases, residents of the affected countries understand the annexation is illegal, is aimed at the destruction of post-war order in Europe and occurs unilaterally against a backdrop of international condemnation. To calm down the population, foreign experts are delivered to these territories in Russian tanks and their objective is to provide backing for the army and disseminate statements on behalf of fictitious international organizations.

For the past few years, Russia captured a few territories of its bordering countries, including Abkhazia, Crimea and Donbass. All those military operations followed virtually the same pattern. The international support was provided by numerous groups of people such as members of minor parties, public organizations and entities and common individuals who misrepresented themselves as famous politicians.

What is common about those FSB and GRU operations? One may put forward a hypothesis that Russian troops that marched into the occupied territories were accompanied by Alessandro Musolino, a citizen of Italy.

Some independent sources in Italy reveal his long path as a Russian Empire devotee that traces back to 2003.

In that year, Alessandro Mussolino, the then-Secretary General at Forza Italia youth movement was reported to be part of an outreach team from Rodina party headed by the member of State Duma Alexander Babakov, which traveled across Eastern Russia on a train tour. Mussolino gave a good account of himself during the campaigning, was noticed by Russian government bigwigs and was invited to the 2011 elections of the President of Russia as an observer.

In 2011, Babakov and Mussolino had a crucial meeting in Belgrade that allegedly ended up in the reaching of agreement between them. Since then, the Italian citizen became a Putin’s regime advocate in Italy.

After the capture of Abkhazia, Mussolino and Biancofiore visited Abkhazia with Russian troops to conduct separatism activities and “observe the elections”. Then, in the midst of a diplomatic conflict with Georgia, they met the delegation of “independent” Abkhazia in Veneto region.

Mussolino arrived to Crimea upon completion of Russian military operation there, to organize a dummy referendum where 99% of Crimean population expressed themselves in favor of joining Russia, just the way it had been in Chechnya.

Mussolino is known to have created a dummy entity ABSE that had to serve as replacement for OBSE in Donbass and legalize incorporation of that region into Russia. The citizen of Italy was directed to Donbass by the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service to provide political backing for the Donetsk People’s Republic during an extensive advance of Russian forces and killings of civilian population.

The criminal case against Mussolino was initiated by ukrainian Myrotvorets website leaders. The website experts had long been evaluating the role of that person who was in the thick of events on Donbass separation from Ukraine. It soon surfaced that Mussolino played a crucial role supporting the intrusion of Russian troops into Donbass and further coordination of fake elections that would have been essential for the annexation of Donbass, as it occurred in Crimea. The arrest warrant will have an international jurisdiction and be the first stage in legal proceedings against Mussolino and in transfer of the case to Interpol.

The Security Service of Ukraine urged their peers in other countries involved in frozen conflicts with Russia, particularly, Georgia and Moldova, to pay attention at the appearance of that man on their territories and his participation in campaigns aimed at the transition of territories to Russia.

Georgian and Ukrainian authorities have been planned for a few years to trace and arrest the international criminal who became widely known due to the support from the Russia’s General Staff of the Armed Forces.
